Well Plugging Opportunities Across Appalachia

By amoux| 2 Min Read | October 14, 2024

Federal legislation is funneling billions of dollars to states across Appalachia to aide in their efforts to plug abandoned and orphan wells. Many of these programs are in their infancy, and there is still opportunity for new technologies, plugging companies, and expertise to help facilitate these efforts. Identifying and understanding the complexity of these programs can be a daunting task. We are pleased to be joined by two experts in this field as they  help identify the business & community opportunities, explain some of the funding mechanisms, and provide the latest information available on what companies must do to be eligible to participate. Jeff Walentosky and Justin Wagner are the chairs of the Well Plugging Workgroup through the Marcellus Shale Coalition. Mr. Walentosky is President of Moody and Associates and Mr. Wagner is a Principal at Civil & Environmental Consultants. Jeff has been with Moody since 1990 and is a licensed professional geologist in Pennsylvania and New York. He is currently a member of the PA DEP’s Oil and Gas Technical Advisory Board (TAB), as the the Citizen’s Advisory Council (CAC) appointee. Justin is a licensed engineer and has over 28 years of experience in oil and gas development, stream restoration, and public sector/municipal projects.
